Official press release:
ITV announces plans to broadcast continuous, comprehensive live coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday 5th June.
ITV News at Ten’s Julie Etchingham and ITV’s Phillip Schofield will reunite, following the acclaimed Royal Wedding programme last year, to host ITV’s coverage of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee procession on Tuesday 5th June, live from a specially constructed studio at Buckingham Palace.
An experienced line-up of ITV1’s presenters and reporters including Alastair Stewart, Mary Nightingale, Mark Austin, Nina Hossain and Natasha Kaplinsky will be based at key procession points on the way from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to the service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s, reporting live as the nation celebrates sixty years of our Monarch on the throne. James Mates will lead the ceremonial commentary of events.
Build up to the day of celebrations will start early in the morning on Daybreak, with ITV1’s live coverage beginning directly after at 08.30, and continuing right through to 16.00 that afternoon.
Michael Jermey, ITV’s Director of News & Current Affairs said: “ITV will give viewers a close-up view on a great day of national celebration. We’ll aim to capture the national mood as millions of people across the country toast the Queen’s 60th anniversary on the throne. People enjoyed our coverage of the Royal Wedding and we hope they’ll join ITV again for the Diamond Jubilee procession and service of thanksgiving.”
The live coverage will be produced by ITN. Jonathan Munro, Director of Newsgathering and Deputy Editor of ITV News said:
“This is the first Diamond Jubilee of the television era. It means that the nation’s celebrations can be enjoyed wherever you are, as never before. We’ll work hard to make sure the ITV programme provides the very best coverage of a truly special day.”
